Astral Media, who have the sweetheart 20 year deal with the city to clutter our sidewalks with advertising in exchange for giant glass bus shelters and dalek-via-Rubbermaid trash bins, have managed to squeeze some decent info panels onto the edges of their new sidewalk blocking Signature Columns.

Remembering the Secret Swing | Summer 2005

To those of you who wish to find it, everything you need to know is in these pictures. However, you will need a time machine.

In the summer of 2005 I showed my brother and my cousin the Secret Swing, which was installed by artist Corwyn Lund in a wedge between two buildings, available from Graffiti Alley behind Queen Street West about a block an a half west of Spadina.

Neither of them knew anything about the swing. I pretended that we were just going to check out the graffiti, and then had the pleasure of surprising them with the swing.

The signage on the window of Klaxton Howl has been filled in with gold, and now it’s much more visible, moreso walking along the street. A snarky comment I made earlier was clearly inspired by thinking an unfinished version of the sign was finished. The dutil sign IS subtle but is appropriate for the brand.
