Queen at Abell St | October 2005

Behind the transit shelter at Abell and Queen streets a condo marketing centre is being constructed. It is for Westside Lofts, to be built behind 48 Abell Street, visible in the background.

The finished building, April 2006:

When the Will Alsop designed WestSide Lofts Marketing Pavillion went up in the parking lot of Woolfitt’s Art Supplies in 2006, the designs for the new WestSide condo included a colourful 7 storey building also designed by Alsop Architects. See this 2006 article.

I wasn’t a fan of Will Alsop at the time — I was unimpressed by interior space of the OCAD building — but the blandness of the new buildings that eventually got built on this block makes me wish I were much more welcoming to the wackiness.
